Jo-Burg

We have been back in Johannesburg for 3 days now.  We just checked in to a nice B&B for our last 5 nights.  It's in the Rosebank suburbs and is called Rosebank B&B.  We are not roughing it these last 4 days.  It's a beautiful area but still has security fencing and armed security guards at every turn.  I think I am kind of silly because I don't feel unsafe at all.  We have really just been eating, walking and looking.  Today we went to Nelson Mandela's home and the apartheid museum.  Both were very interesting and eyeopening.
Apartheid  was a system of legal racial segregation enforced by the National Party government of South Africa between 1948 and 1993, under which the rights of the majority 'non-white' inhabitants of South Africa were curtailed and minority rule by white people was maintained.
Reforms to apartheid in the 1980s failed to quell the mounting opposition, and in 1990 President Frederik Willem de Klerk began negotiations to end apartheid, culminating in multi-racial democratic elections in 1994, which were won by the African National Congress under Nelson Mandela. The vestiges of apartheid still shape South African politics and society.[4]

Nelson Mandela spent many years fighting for the end to Aprtheid and over 20 years of them in prison.  He is well loved in this country and I suppose the world.

The museum was not that great for pictures it was more about the story but I have a few.  Also, I have some random shots and, of course, a food shot.

The second time Bob has met Mr. Mandela this time just the statue

Loved this comic

Winnie Mandelas retaurant

Electric fences are everywhere.

AND.....now the food shot. This is watermelon and feta cheese with a balsamic reduction and watercress.  It was every bit as good as it looks.
